DOCTOR OF ACUPUNCTURE (D.Ac/ DAOM)

Yuin University School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine awards the Master Of Science In Oriental Medicine degree on the basis of credit earned by taking classes and labs, and the credit and the degrees are based primarily on mastery of course content through prescribed curricular, required campus residence, and required classes. The graduate program aims at contributing to the development of Oriental Medicine through more recondite academic study in theories and practical application of scholarship, through completing prominent personality, and through cultivating original thinking and creative achievement in the advancement and extension of knowledge.

Doctor Of Acupuncture Admissions

  1. Bachelor of Science degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, or the equivalent.
  2. State License holder.

Doctor Of Acupuncture Program Description
All course work in this degree program is prescriptive.

Doctor Of Acupuncture Graduation Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of all required course work over twelve quarters time (approximately 36 months chronological time)
  • Satisfactory completion of all required coursework over 14 quarters' time approximately forty¬ two months chronological time).
  • Completion of 85 quarter units of credit. 1 quarter unit is 10 contact hours for ten weeks.
  • Advancement to candidacy, as signified by the completion of all doctoral coursework and the passing of a comprehensive examination.
  • Satisfactory completion of doctoral dissertation including oral defense of dissertation.
  • Students must apply for graduation and meet all academic and financial requirements

Instructional Methods
Yuin University School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine awards degree on the bases of credit earned by taking classes and Labs, and the credit and the degrees are based primarily on mastery of course content through prescribed curricular, required campus residence, and required classes.

The graduate program aims at contributing to the development of Oriental Medicine through more recondite academic study in theories and practical application of scholarship, through completing prominent personality, and through cultivating original thinking and creative achievement in the advancement and extension of knowledge. For all other information, please refer to academic regulations.

The particular emphasis of this program is placed upon the areas of acupuncture analgesia, pain pathways, and the relationship of pain and endorphins and other brain hormones. Also attention is focused on the neuropsychiatric aspects of acupuncture research and practice, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal systems as well as obstetrics and renal diseases.

The third year program includes Clinical Instruction with over 100 case presentations, Treatment Observation, and Clinical correlation program in cooperation with the University Acupuncture Clinic Center.

The entire fourth year is to provide Supervised Practice and Advanced research. The students are to treat over 800 patients successfully, under supervision, including case research.

Examination
Tests are given twice in each quarter, and a final exam at the end of each year.

Evaluation
Attached forms are used for student and faculty evaluation.

Research
Attached forms are used for students research guide.

Group Projects
In addition to attending classes, lab, and doing the assignments, the student will have the opportunity to work on group projects in the community.

Class Attendance Rules
All students must have 75% attendance of all courses, regardless of the nature of the absences. Those students who fail to maintain satisfactory class attendance in any subject will not be permitted to take the final exam in that particular subject.

Laboratory
Most of the clinical instruction, including lab, has been established at the university clinic.

Audio-Visual Aid
The Audio-Visual aid is introduced during the class hours such as: a flip chart, slides, short films, videotapes, overhead projector, or some other audiovisual devices.

Other
Panel or class discussions, group research, and group discussion to give an opportunity for student input and feedback.

Course Listing
In the listing below the courses required for the California Licensing are listed first, followed by elective courses that are available for study. Electives will be offered when there is a minimal level of student interest.

Students normally attend class year-round. The recommended course sequences for Full-Time students attending is a total of 12 quarters. Courses are listed by subject category. Since the Acupuncture Committee requires that all courses be identified with both their units of credit and classroom hours, this information is provided.
